Kerry Ring part 2

The pizza last night from the Watch House was excellent, not too big so all crusts were eaten. Boston's Bar, the only pub in town, was a 5 min stroll. A pint and a half of Guinness was consumed. The bar was busy until the gaelic football match finished. There was talk of music later but it didn't seem certain and again we were tired so we didn't stay. The weather cleared, blue sky and distant hills were seen, and it was a lovely evening. The assessment of the Valentia campsite was not so sunny; the showers were fierce with no controls and no seat, and the WiFi was flakey then broken.

This morning the cloud was back down with a vengeance, can hardly see beyond the campsite. We exited Valentia via the small ferry and continued along the Ring which frankly isn't that scenic on the sea side; maybe the hills/mountains are good but we can't see them. We diverted to Killarney to find a pharmacy open on a Sunday, to get insect repellent- we are starting to get bitten. Killarney was v busy and didn't make a good impression- just a big town with a lot of tourist tat. We bought a couple of tiny things for neighbours who keep an eye on our house.

Then onwards to our final peninsula, the Dingle. The campsite we had already booked and paid two nights is a great location just behind the enormous Inch Beach, but oh dear it does NOT match the expectations gleaned from the swanky website. Frankly it is small and scruffy. We got a warm welcome, sure enough, and a location with a fine view. But the showers are crap and rest of the facilities somewhat run down, and the wifi is flakey. We reckon the site is for surfer dudes who don't care about such things. We find ourselves yearning for the predictable quality of the CAMC sites.

We thought we'd drive over Connor Pass, but realised on the way that the top was in cloud so there would be no views. Went into Dingle instead, checked out the pub locations for tomorrow night - surely we'll get music at last. Had a wander round the few streets and the harbour front and small marina. Had a Murphys ice cream at huge expense, €13 for two tubs with two scoops. Paid homage to the famous statue of Fungie the Dingle Dolphin who was a great tourist attraction in the harbour; when he died they made a statue to keep the attraction going.

Back at the site we made dinner, washed up, had a (crap) shower, put everything away, wrote this, and now it's 2130 already.
